About Edmonton Central

Sixty years of hope. One ongoing story.

A spirit-led, hospitable, multi-generational church family in the heart of central Edmonton, gathered around one mission: to love Jesus, love people, and make disciples.

Our mission

“To reach out and touch the central Edmonton area and our individual communities with hope and wholeness.”

— Pastor David Hamstra, on behalf of the church family

Our story

Founded in 1957. Dedicated in 1964. Still gathering.

Edmonton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church was planted in 1957 in the growing Westmount-Norwood neighbourhood of north-central Edmonton. By 1964, the congregation had grown enough to build and dedicate its current sanctuary at 10131 111 Avenue on April 15 of that year.

For more than six decades since, ECSDAC has been a constant in this neighbourhood. We have baptised generations, sent missionaries, started Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs, run weekly food drives in the basement, opened our doors to language schools and community groups, and walked alongside this corner of Edmonton through every season.

Today, about 500 members are on the church roll and 300 to 350 gather most Sabbath mornings. The congregation reflects the city around it: African, Asian, Caribbean, European, Indigenous, Latin, and Filipino families worshipping together in one room. We are not a perfect church. We are an honest one, learning to follow Jesus together.

What we believe

Jesus at the centre. Bible as the source. Sabbath as a gift.

Edmonton Central is part of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church, a Christian movement of more than 22 million members. We share the historic Christian creeds and 28 Fundamental Beliefs articulated by the global Adventist family.

Jesus is the centre.

Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by what we do. Everything else is downstream of that.

The Bible is our source.

The Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and the standard for what we believe and how we live.

The Sabbath is a gift.

Saturday is the seventh-day Sabbath, a weekly rest and worship that points to creation, redemption, and the rest still to come in Christ.

Hope is real.

Jesus is coming again, literally and personally. Until then, we live the hope and share it with our neighbours.
